A HISTORY OF SERVICE
With the support of his peers in the Business Circle of Chicago, Jones organized a meeting among similar service-oriented groups from around the United States. On June 7, 1917, the assembly met in Chicago and assumed the “Association of Lions Clubs” name. Soon, a constitution, by-laws, objects and code of ethics were approved—and the Lions movement was born.
Three short years later, the Lions become an international organization dedicated to serving communities, meeting humanitarian needs, encouraging peace and promoting international understanding. Today, the Lions Club is the world’s largest service club organization, with more than 1.4 million Lions working together in more than 200 countries to create a better tomorrow.
For over 70 years, and now with over 100 members, the Waconia Lions have come together in the spirit of service to give back to their local communities, the region and the world.
To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.
To Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.
To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.
To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.
To Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.
To Encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
